Kurt Benkert Makes His Biggest Travis Hunter Prediction Yet
Benkert shared a clip of Hunter delivering a big hit during Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. His assessment of the young defender’s potential came with quite an opening statement.
“I don’t say this lightly… Travis Hunter could end up being the greatest of all time,”Benkert wrote.
That is a remarkable amount of faith to place in a player four games into his second NFL season. Benkert left the prediction broad, giving the football world plenty of room to debate just how high Hunter’s ceiling might be.

Sunday certainly gave him material to work with. Hunter finished with four tackles, including three solo stops, and two passes defensed as Jacksonvilleheld off Cincinnati for a 22–17 victory. The Jaguars improved to 3–1.
Hunter also supplied one of the afternoon’s most replayable moments on a play that disappeared from the official statistics. After intercepting Joe Burrow, he juked Tee Higgins during the return. A roughing-the-passer penalty against Arik Armstead wiped out the interception.
The flag erased the turnover. Higgins still had to live with the replay.

Hunter’s Second Season Gives Jacksonville Plenty To Like
Hunter arrived in the NFL with unusually large expectations after Jacksonville selected him second overall in the 2025 draft. His final season at Colorado included the Heisman Trophy, Biletnikoff Award, and Bednarik Award, a collection that reflected his influence on both sides of the ball.
He caught 96 passes for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns in that 2024 season while adding four interceptions on defense. Those numbers explain why discussions about his potential have always reached beyond the usual expectations for a young cornerback or receiver.
His first NFL season covered seven games, producing 28 receptions for 298 yards and a touchdown, plus 15 tackles and three passes defensed. Now, his defensive production is starting to give Jacksonville more to build around.
Hunter intercepted a pass against New England in Week 3 before following it with Sunday’s two pass breakups. Through four games, he ranks No. 14 in the updatedPFN CB Impact Rankings with an 83.1 grade.
Benkert’s prediction will take years to test. Sustaining elite play across seasons is a much bigger assignment than producing an October highlight. Hunter is still only 23, with plenty of football ahead of him.
For now, Jacksonville can enjoy a young defender stacking productive Sundays. Benkert has already volunteered to be the guy who says he called it.
