Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama reportedly icing out American media ahead of NBA season

It’s been almost four months since the San Antonio Spurs lost to the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals.

The Spurs held a 72-65 lead going into the fourth quarter of Game 5 before the Knicks outscored them 29-18 in the final frame to win 94-90. The Knicks took home their first NBA title since 1973 with that win.

Since then, Spurs star Victor Wembanyama has been getting ready for the 2026-27 season, and according to ESPN’s Michael Wright, he’s locked in and won’t talk to any American outlet outside of “60 Minutes.”
“I’m hearing that Victor does not want to talk about what happened in the finals. I’m hearing he’s like, locked in. As a matter of fact, I was told he’s not even talking to any American media outlets except for 60 Minutes,” Wright said. “And I’m curious to see what the ’60 Minutes’ is, but it affected him in a way.”

It remains to be seen whether Wembanyama will talk to any American media outlet outside of “60 Minutes” this year.
The Spurs will open the season on Oct. 20 against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
