In a major development, UEFA has confirmed that it has received a substantial dossier of documents from Real Madrid relating to the ongoing investigation into FC Barcelona in connection with the Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira case.
In an official statement, UEFA confirmed that they had received the dossier submitted by Real Madrid and that they had begun looking into the matter.
“UEFA confirms having received from Real Madrid CF a substantial amount of documents related to the ongoing investigation into FC Barcelona in the José María Enríquez Negreira case, former vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (the so-called ‘Negreira case’).”
The statement adds: “UEFA’s ethics and disciplinary inspectors have also received these documents, which they will analyse as part of their review.”

Real Madrid’s dossier
Real Madrid had prepared an extensive report containing the documentation relating to the Negreira case several months ago and has spent time seeking consequences for Barcelona while progress in Spain has remained limited.
The dossier was almost 50,000 pages, filled with thousands of documents, alleged evidence, statements from multiple parties.
Real Madrid have repeatedly stressed in its discussions that they believes Barcelon should face punishment, including the possibility of them being stripped of titles, arguing that this would be important for football and the credibility of the sport.
What next?
Barcelona, for their part, have constantly maintained that the payments to Negreira were purely for scouting and technical reports on referees and players.

So far, there has been no evidence found suggesting any wrongdoing as far as the investigation carried out in Spain has been concerned.
The next step lies with UEFA, which must now examine the documentation submitted by Real Madrid and determine what action, if any, should follow.
The fact that UEFA has confirmed receipt of the material does not itself mean that Barcelona have been sanctioned or that disciplinary proceedings have been opened.
The European body’s ethics and disciplinary inspectors will first assess the documents as part of their review before deciding on the next step.
