Briscoe finished fourth in Stage 2 and chased Larson down following the final green-flag pit sequence, taking the lead on Lap 238. His No. 19 Toyota became increasingly loose as the run continued, however, allowing Larson to retake the lead on Lap 261. Contact with the wall then cost Briscoe two more positions before the checkered flag.
Briscoe still finished fourth and earned 40 points, but the missed opportunity had major championship consequences. He sits eighth in the Chase standings with 2,159 points, 123 behind Larson. With six races remaining, Briscoe needs substantial gains quickly after Larson’s maximum-points afternoon widened an already significant deficit.
