Moeller Crusaders baseball beats Centerville for regional title

For the first time since winning the state championship in 2023, the Moeller Crusaders are back in the Ohio High School Athletic Association baseball state tournament.
Moeller (24-6) beat Centerville (25-5) 7-0 in the Division I regional finals on Wednesday, June 3. The Crusaders advanced to their 14th OHSAA state tournament and are on the hunt for state championship No. 10.

Moeller senior Matt Ponatoski started for the Crusaders and didn't allow a run over five innings. Fellow senior pitcher Jake Gaerke finished up the final two innings of the victory.
The Crusaders scored a pair of runs in the first inning on a bases-loaded single from Teagan Cumberland. Moeller held a 2-0 lead until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Crusaders poured on some insurance runs, taking a 7-0 lead to the top of the seventh.

Gaerke finished up the two-hitter and the Crusaders clinched the Region 3 championship.
Back at the OHSAA state tournament, the Crusaders will see the Region 1 champion in the state semifinals on June 11. The Region 1 championship, to be played on June 4, will either be Perrysburg or the winner of the St. Ignatius and Massillon Jackson regional semifinal.
