The Fighting Irish are heavily favored to defeat Navy on Saturday. Notre Dame enters the contest with a national ranking and what is considered one of the best teams in the country.

The Fighting Irish have been one of the best teams in the country for the last few years. Notre Dame reached the national championship game during the 2024 season, but missed out of the CFP in 2025.

This season, Notre Dame is on a mission to return to the playoff. Notre Dame has a loss this season to BYU.  The team’s loss to BYU is significant, because Notre Dame plays as an independent. The team can ill-afford another loss, if it wants to make the CFP.

Freeman wants his team to get better.

“It was important that we had to own our mistakes, our shortcomings, own our performance, and not just move on,” Freeman said ahead of the Navy game, per the Associated Press. “I reminded our guys, sometimes you’ve got to lose to win. There are lessons in losing that if you learn from them, it’ll help you be better prepared for the next opportunity that presents itself.”

Notre Dame and Navy are playing at time of writing. The Fighting Irish enter Saturday’s game with a 6-1 record.
