Nick Leitz's race recap in the 2026 Chase race at Talladega
· Yahoo Sports
Nick Leitz delivered an encouraging performance in Saturday's The Progress Group 250 at Talladega Superspeedway, finishing 15th after qualifying 13th. The Young's Motorsports driver completed all 94 laps during an afternoon featuring multiple accidents and changing drafting conditions.
Leitz entered the event hoping to take advantage of the unpredictable racing at NASCAR's largest superspeedway. His No. 42 Chevrolet began the afternoon near the front half of the field, providing an opportunity to remain competitive with several established series regulars. However, maintaining track position became challenging as JR Motorsports controlled much of the racing near the front.

Leitz continued battling through the opening stages while avoiding the incidents that affected several championship contenders. The most significant accident occurred on Lap 57 when contact involving Harrison Burton and Taylor Gray triggered a multicar crash. Leitz remained in competition and continued working toward a solid finish as the race entered its final stage.
Another caution eventually forced the event into overtime, setting up an aggressive battle during the closing laps. Leitz successfully completed the race and finished 15th, two positions behind his original starting spot. Although the result did not produce a top-10 finish, it provided a respectable performance against a competitive 38-car field.
