Notre Dame vs Navy Prediction: How Fast Can the Irish Refocus?
· Yahoo Sports
The Notre Dame schedule is better than it gets credit for, the team is fantastic, and yet when it had the chance to flex its muscle and show just how good it was … (cue the sad trombone) womp, womp.
Yeah, there’s still one second on the clock, but the Irish did end up losing 28-24 to a BYU team that parlayed all the momentum of that win into a loss at UCF. The big story of this, though, is the Miami visit to South Bend next week, but first, Notre Dame has to beat a Navy team desperate for something positive.
It’s been a rough run for a Midshipmen team that came into the season with hopes of winning the American conference title. A 34-26 win was the only victory over an FBS team, but there’s still time to get through a manageable November, beat Army, and get a bowl bid.

Why Navy Will Win
The Navy running game still works. It’s third in the nation behind Army and Air Force, averaging 308 yards per game, ripping off 363 yards and four scores in the 49-39 loss to North Texas last week.
BYU hardly ran wild on the Irish defense, but the 121 yards and four yards per carry were the best rushing performance by far against this bunch. If Navy can control the clock for long stretches of time, it has a chance.
Why Notre Dame Will Win
Forgetting for a moment that Notre Dame has the third-best run defense in America and has the corners to keep Navy from hitting the monster deep shots it needs, the most important thing here might be just this simple: The Irish don’t screw up.
Navy can’t take the same plane as Notre Dame talent-wise, so the only real hope is to capitalize on a slew of Irish mistakes.
Notre Dame is No. 1 in the nation in fewest penalties and penalty yards, and it has only turned the ball over twice.
Notre Dame vs Navy Prediction, Betting Lines
The worst thing to happen to Navy was Notre Dame’s BYU loss two weeks ago – this will be a focused team coming into Foxborough, and there shouldn’t be any thoughts about Miami next week.
Notre Dame has destroyed the Midshipmen by a combined score of 142-27 over the last three seasons. This time around won’t be pretty, either.
