The Cleveland Guardians are on the board in the AL Championship Series! Cleveland was up against a formidable foe to start the ALCS when Drew Rasmussen took the mound. The Tampa Bay Rays’ veteran ace has been near-unhittable this postseason. Rasmussen hadn’t given up a run in his seven innings before his Game 1 start, and he was on pace to continue that streak in the sixth inning.

However, Guardians right fielder Chase DeLauter had other plans. Hitting as the lead-off man in the sixth, DeLauter crushed a hanging breaking ball out of the field. That run broke Rasmussen’s scoreless streak, but most importantly, cut the Rays’ lead to one.

DeLauter has been on fire in the postseason prior to his home run in the sixth inning. The Guardians right fielder has five hits in sixteen at-bats, driving in two runs in that time period. He’s been one of their better hitters in this playoff run.

The Guardians are back in the ALCS for the first time since 2016, back when they were known as the Indians. They defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1 to advance to the World Series. Unfortunately, their championship hopes ended when they lost to the white-hot Chicago Cubs in a heartbreaking seven-game series. This time, Cleveland is taking on a resurgent Rays team that nearly won 100 games this season.

At the time of writing, the Guardians still trail the Rays 4-3 at the top of the ninth inning. Rasmussen allowed another run after DeLauter’s home run, but the Tampa Bay hitting crew was able to further extend their lead.
