The seventh week of the 2026 Texas high school football season was chock-full of memorable upsets, thrilling comebacks and all-around dominant performances.

The Big Country’s top high school football teams returned to the gridiron this weekend, where several of the area’s biggest stars put on dazzling displays and showed off their playmaking abilities.

Here’s a closer look at the players who shined brightest throughout the Abilene area this weekend.

The following are many of the Big Country’s top individual performances from the Abilene area’s standout players during Week 7 of the 2026 Texas high school football season:

Big Country high school football top performers – Week 7 (Oct. 8-10)

Players listed below in alphabetical order.

Zander Abila, Knox City

Abila threw for 153 yards and four touchdowns on 4-of-5 passing and also rushed for 74 yards and two touchdowns on two carries to lead the Greyhounds to a 52-0 rout of Lueders-Avoca in their district opener.

Chantz Adams, Coleman

Adams racked up 184 rushing yards and four touchdown runs in the Bluecats’ dominant 40-14 win over Brady to kick off district play in District 7-2A DI.

Tristan Beal, Abilene High

Beal led the Eagles to a 55-41 road win over Wolfforth Frenship Memorial by throwing for 276 yards and two touchdowns on 12-of-18 passing and running for 124 yards and three rushing touchdowns on 14 carries.

Owen Bishop, Forsan

Bishop threw for 267 yards and four touchdowns on 18-of-27 passing in Forsan’s 40-37 shootout loss to Ballinger.

Mason Blueford, Sweetwater

Blueford ran for 112 yards and two rushing touchdowns on just three carries to help Sweetwater blast Lamesa 79-26 in their District 2-3A DI opener.

Jordan Brown, Abilene High

Brown intercepted a pass and then found the end zone for a 57-yard pick six touchdown defensively in Abilene High’s 55-41 shootout win against Wolfforth Frenship Memorial.

Jaxon Carrington, Seymour

Carrington ran for 94 yards and a pair of rushing touchdowns on 13 carries to help the Panthers knock off Petrolia in District 6-2A DII play.

Clay Chapman, Albany

Chapman threw for 291 yards and two touchdowns on 24-of-32 passing and also ran for 72 yards and two rushing touchdowns on 16 carries in the Lions’ 55-27 road loss to rival Stamford.

Wyatt Clemens, Ballinger

Clemens accounted for 313 yards and four touchdowns through the air as well as 74 yards and a touchdown on the ground to lead the Bearcats to a 40-37 victory against previously undefeated Forsan.

Lane Couch, De Leon

Couch — the Big Country’s leading rusher — was almost unstoppable in the Bearcats’ decisive 35-13 road win against Hawley in their District 5-2A DI opener, rushing for 291 yards and five touchdowns on 32 carries.

Aydin Cruces, Roscoe

Cruces passed for 326 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Plowboys to a dominant 48-6 victory over Ralls in their District 3-2A DII opener.

Jamarion Dunson, Abilene Cooper

Dunson scooped up a fumble recovery and returned it 20 yards to score a defensive touchdown in the Cougars’ dominant 27-6 win against Lubbock Cooper.

Hunter Edington, Coleman

Edington led Coleman to a runaway 40-14 win over Brady in their District 7-2A DI opener, throwing for 241 yards and three passing touchdowns.

Coy Evans, Forsan

Evans reeled in 11 receptions for 206 receiving yards and three touchdown catches in the Buffs’ 40-37 shootout loss to District 4-2A DII rival Ballinger.

Miles Follis, Stamford

Follis shined in the Bulldogs’ biggest win of the season so far — a 55-27 rout of District 7-2A DII rival Albany — throwing for 305 yards and two touchdowns on 17-of-21 passing. He also ran for 17 yards and two rushing touchdowns on four carries.

Boss Hines, Abilene High

Hines rumbled for 120 yards and a touchdown on the ground off 18 carries to help lift the Eagles to a 55-41 road victory against Wolfforth Frenship Memorial in District 2-5A DI play.

July Johnson, Cisco

Johnson ran wild in the Loboes’ 58-6 rout of District 5-2A DI rival Anson, rushing for 129 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries.

Trot Jordan, Stephenville

Jordan threw for 291 yards and three touchdowns on 20-of-27 passing and also ran for 23 yards and two rushing touchdowns on four carries to lead Stephenville to a 35-14 victory over Lampasas.

Austin Joslin, Coahoma

Joslin threw for 219 yards and four touchdowns to help the Bulldogs jump all over Alpine early in a runaway 49-17 win in Coahoma’s District 3-3A DII opener.

Hunter Kresta, Ballinger

Kresta caught nine passes for 163 receiving yards and two touchdowns to lift Ballinger to a 40-37 shootout win over Forsan in District 4-2A DII play.

Brandon Lee, Colorado City

Lee hauled in six receptions for 106 yards and a pair of touchdown catches in Colorado City’s 34-24 win against District 4-2A DII rival Regan County.

Colby McIlory, Cisco

McIlroy shined in Cisco’s District 5-2A DI opener, throwing for 204 yards and three touchdowns on 13-of-18 passing and rushing for 52 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries to lead the Loboes to a 58-6 victory against Anson.

Ace Mejia, Colorado City

Mejia threw for 246 yards and three touchdowns on 15-of-24 passing and also ran for 118 yards and a rushing touchdown on 17 carries to propel the Wolves to a 34-24 victory over Reagan County.

Caden Monk, Stephenville

Monk reeled in a game-high 10 catches for 154 receiving yards and two touchdown grabs in the Yellow Jackets’ 35-14 win against Lampasas in their District 12-4A DI opener.

Caiden Ortiz, Sweetwater

Ortiz threw for 215 yards and three touchdowns on 11-of-14 passing in the Mustangs’ 79-26 blowout win against Lamesa in District 2-3A DI play. He also ran for 28 yards and a rushing touchdown on four carries.

Hagen Pinkerton, Haskell

Pinkerton helped Haskell hang 92 points on Munday in a runaway 92-48 victory in District 6-2A DII play, passing for 264 yards and five touchdowns and rushing for 179 yards and three more touchdowns.

Tyler Rainwater, Hico

Rainwater passed for 154 yards and two touchdowns and also rushed for 224 yards and three touchdowns to lead the unbeaten Tigers to a runaway 51-6 victory over Abilene TLCA in their District 5-2A DI opener.

AJ Rico, Abilene Cooper

Rico scored after intercepting a pass and returning it 57 yards for a pick-six touchdown in Abilene Cooper’s lopsided 27-6 victory over Lubbock Cooper.

Aiden Rodriguez, Coahoma

Rodriguez rushed for 140 yards and a touchdown to help Coahoma notch a dominant 49-17 victory over Alpine in their District 3-3A DII opener.

Blaze Ruffin, Abilene Wylie

Ruffin hauled in two receptions for 59 yards and a receiving touchdown and also booted 31- and 45-yard field goals through the uprights for the Bulldogs in their 27-13 win over Wichita Falls Memorial in District 2-5A DII action.

Hayden Trevino, Rule

Trevino ran for 193 yards and six rushing touchdowns on just seven carries and also threw for 39 yards on 2-of-3 passing to power the Bobcats to a runaway 57-6 victory against Haskell Paint Creek.

Aiden Vickers, Albany

Vickers hauled in eight catches for 135 receiving yards and a touchdown in Albany’s 55-27 road loss to Stamford in District 7-2A DII play.

Landry Vosburg, Cisco

Vosburg ran for 143 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries, caught four passes for 79 yards and a receiving touchdown, and also intercepted a pass defensively to lead the Loboes to a dominant 58-6 win over Anson.

Layne Ward, Richland Springs

Ward led the Coyotes to a pivotal 76-52 road victory against Cherokee in their district opener, racking up 230 rushing yards and five touchdown runs on 18 carries, 92 receiving yards and a touchdown grab on five receptions, and 148 passing yards and three touchdown throws on 3-of-6 passing.

Slayden Young, Stamford

Young had a big night for the Bulldogs in their 55-27 win over Albany, running for 124 yards and three rushing touchdowns on nine carries and catching five passes for 73 receiving yards.
