'Burg, Valley, ND hold state rankings in VB

Each of the three teams who have been ranked throughout the duration of the MaxPreps state volleyball rankings in 2026 continue to hold serve on the list, as Wheelersburg and Valley each sit at No. 10 overall in the Division IV and Division VII realms, respectively, while Notre Dame sits No. 23 spot in Division VII in the latest rankings.

Wheelersburg (18-2, 8-0 SOC III), No. 10 in OHSAA Division IV

The 10th ranked unit in the OHSAA Division IV realm continues to roll as Kelsey Glockner’s group, who has won eight straight matches and 12 out of its last 13, have dropped just five sets since Sept. 9.

Wheelersburg is led by senior frontline hitter Alyssa Mullins’ 252 kills, 168 digs, 29 aces and .266 attack percentage, while sophomore Lainey Skeenes has added in 235 digs, 190 kills and 20 aces to that total. Laikyn Hall (91 kills, 68 digs, 35 blocks, 26 aces, .244 attack percentage) has also been a major factor up front among others.

From a passing standpoint, Wheelersburg junior Mati Jennings’ 308 assists and senior Laynee Walker’s 272 dimes, along with Jennings’ OHSAA Division IV leading 65 aces, heads up an experienced crew, while Lady Pirate junior Ryleigh Harness’ 312 digs leads Wheelersburg’s defense.

Valley (17-1, 7-1 SOC III), No. 10 in OHSAA Division VI

Sitting 10th in the OHSAA Division VI realm, the Valley Indians’ volleyball program has only dropped three sets all season with its only loss coming to Wheelersburg, who the Lady Indians will get a rematch with on Thursday. All of Valley’s remaining matches have resulted in straight set wins for the Lady Indians.

A highly proficient and balanced hitting attack is led by Valley senior Kendyl Christman (217 kills, 123 digs, 34 aces, .316 attack percentage), Valley junior Mya Williams (146 kills, 46 total blocks, 23 aces, .386 attack percentage), Lady Indian sophomore EJ Vice (134 digs, 127 kills, 33 aces) and Lady Indian juniors Zoe Wolfe (77 kills, 21 aces, 20 blocks) and Peyton Hunter (78 kills, 36 blocks, .324 attack percentage).

Passing-wise, Valley senior Katelyn Queen (555 assists, 51 aces) leads the offense while Lady Indian sophomore Laylee McGraw (253 digs, 53 aces, 42 assists) leads the defense from her libero position.

Notre Dame (16-3, 8-0 SOC I), No. 23 in OHSAA Division VII

Standout do-it-all talents Jaysa Bryant and Sophie Phillips continue to make noise for the Lady Titans, who are up to 16-3 overall. Notre Dame’s only losses have been matches at Valley, at Wheelersburg and a five-set loss at Eastern Pike. Drew Novinger-Phillips’ group is 50-6 in its remaining sets this season against all other foes.

Notre Dame hasn’t lost an SOC I match since 2018. The Lady Titans have won 101 consecutive SOC I conference matches since its last in-conference loss on Sept. 4, 2018.
