Jalen Brunson Sends Honest Knicks Message After Brutal 23-Point Preseason Loss to 76ers
· Yahoo Sports
Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks faced the Philadelphia 76ers for the first NBA preseason game on Monday. The defending champions suffered a brutal 23-point loss, even though the 76ers did not play LeBron James, Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.
It’s the preseason, and the Knicks starters did not spend much time on the court. Brunson played 15 minutes and had 12 points, four rebounds and three assists. New York did not have an answer for Jaylen Brown, who had 22 points for the 76ers.

Although it’s the preseason, Brunson believes the recent loss is something they can learn from before the 2026-27 regular season starts.

Still a lot for us to learn and be better at early,” Brunson said.
Jalen Brunson and the Knicks are coming off a championship win last season, beating the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals. It’s the franchise’s first championship since 1973.
The team is looking to defend its title and hopefully contend for another. However, winning a second straight championship has always been challenging. Over the past eight seasons, no other team has won titles in back-to-back seasons. The last time a team won the Larry O’Brien Trophy in consecutive seasons was in 2018, when the Golden State Warriors won back-to-back.
Brunson is optimistic that the Knicks can contend for another title this season.
Jalen Brunson Knows the Knicks Should Be on the Same Page to Win
Before the preseason started, Jalen Brunson spoke about the Knicks’ desire to contend for another championship in the 2026-27 NBA season. However, the star guard knows the entire roster needs to be on the same page.
“I think as a group,” Brunson said, “we figured out that we need each other to win, obviously, and we need each other to be on the same page.”
The former Villanova star knows it will take time for the Knicks to figure things out early in the regular season.
“The first couple of weeks or whatever of the season is going to show us who we are and where we are.”
Brunson wants everyone on the roster to hold each other accountable, similar to their approach last season. The two-time All-Star believes it will help them become a better team moving forward.
