Beckham believes Giants benefited from his return

Beckham returned to New York this offseason in one of the NFL’s more notable reunion stories. The former Giants star made the initial 53-man roster after accepting a veteran-minimum contract, but his actual role quickly became almost nonexistent.

The 33-year-old played just 20 offensive snaps through three games and received only one target, which resulted in no reception.

Beckham emphasized that he approached the opportunity differently than he might have earlier in his career, saying he came in humbly, accepted the veteran minimum and believed he had earned his place on the roster.

That makes the abrupt release even more frustrating from his perspective.

“I shoulda known better,” Beckham wrote while discussing the situation, suggesting he now believes he misread the Giants’ intentions when he agreed to return.

Beckham also made it clear that he does not believe his NFL career should be over.

After being released, he questioned why the Giants brought him back in the first place if they ultimately had no intention of giving him an opportunity.

“I coulda really been playing this year somewhere and making a impact,” Beckham wrote.

Giants head coach John Harbaugh previously explained that the team simply was not getting enough from Beckham’s roster spot and acknowledged that the organization was unable to find a way to get him more involved.

Now, Beckham remains unsigned and will have to wait for another opportunity. Whether another NFL team believes the veteran still has something left could determine whether this Giants reunion was simply a disappointing chapter or the final chapter of his career.
