Tennis: Bulldogs win sectional championship 4-1 against EC

With a 4-1 victory against EIAC foe East Central, the Bulldogs claimed the tennis sectional championship and a berth in the regional.

Batesville improves to 17-5 on the season and will face Columbus North (10-8) at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bedford North Lawrence.

Seymour (19-2) and Scottsburg (12-5) are in the other semifinal at BNL.

At No. 1 singles, Batesville's Jevan Smith defeated Bo Nobbe 6-2, 6-3. At No. 2 singles, Carson Meyer defeated Owen Vollmer 6-4, 6-4. Max Walter fell to Kyler Kaeser 2-6, 6-4, 10-7 at No. 3 singles.

Batesville's No. 1 doubles team of Will Patterson and Wes Peters knocked off Noah Kraus and Owen Mersman 6-2, 6-3. At No. 2 singles, Eli Doll and Coleman West defeated Cole Allison and Tate Mosier 6-2, 0-6, 6-2.

In the sectional semifinal, Batesville defeated Lawrenceburg 5-0. Batesville's Smith won 6-1, 6-2; Meyer won 6-2, 6-2; Walter won 6-4, 6-0; and Peters and Patterson along with Doll and West posted matching 6-0, 6-1 wins in doubles.

Greensburg

Greensburg’s tennis season came to an end with a 3-2 loss in the sectional to host Columbus North.

"We competed and made them earn the victory," Coach Rigney noted. "We finished the season 12-4 and 6-1 in EIAC play. We certainly showed a great amount of improvement throughout the season."

Winning for the Pirates was Will Weber 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Brody Sanders 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Sanders lost his first match of the season and won every match after that.

Rushville

The Lions were defeated in the sectional championship match 5-0 to host Connersville (21-2).
