Avalanche Submit 20-Man Roster On Eve of 2026-27 Season
· Yahoo Sports
WWith NHL rosters due at 3 p.m. MT on Monday, the Colorado Avalanche had no choice but to submit a roster with some uncertainty still hanging over it.
The Avalanche’s roster consists of 20 active players, two goalies, seven defensemen and 11 forwards. They also have forwards Logan O’Connor and Zachary L’Heureux on injured reserve.

Things are still relatively up in the air regarding how the roster will look Wednesday when Colorado opens the season at Ball Arena against the Los Angeles Kings. Head coach Jared Bednar said over the weekend that he expected to have a better idea of O’Connor and L’Heureux’s status on Tuesday.
Both players are currently listed as day-to-day.
If either — or both — are ready to play, the Avalanche can get to a 22-man roster for opening night. That would give them an extra forward, potentially L’Heureux, along with an extra defenseman in Noah Juulsen.
If neither is ready, things could get a little tighter.
The salary cap likely won’t give the Avalanche enough room to call up another forward, meaning they could dress 11 forwards and seven defensemen on opening night. Colorado is also carrying roughly $277,000 in cap hits from Trent Miner, Taylor Makar and Georgii Merkulov being placed on season-opening non-active injured reserve, according to PuckPedia.
That seven-defenseman configuration remains a possibility, although Bednar didn’t seem overly concerned about the injuries over the weekend.
We’ll see what Tuesday brings.
