IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCAU) - Iowa football's 16-13 win over Iowa State in the Cy-Hawk game not only keeps the Hawkeyes as one of the 20 remaining undefeated teams in the AP Top 25 Poll, by also a boost up to #18 following a 2-0 start, turning their focus to another in-state game.

Iowa's offense stole the show with 507 yards in the team's Week 1 win against Northern Illinois, but it's the Hawkeye defense that stepped up once again on Saturday. The team leads the nation in scoring defense while allowing only 16 first downs through two weeks.

Iowa remains hopeful for complementary football ahead of its first meeting with Northern Iowa since 2018, a matchup with plenty of memories - including what some call a miraculous win in 2009 as Iowa blocked two field goals in the final seconds of the game in a one-point win over UNI.

I also go to my grave knowing that we lost that game and that took a miracle to win that game in '09. To me, what circles back to the attitude you take into it, and that was with a really good team. We had a really good team and we had a coming off a good season. But you got you got to go into every game with the right attitude, respect for your opponent and what it takes to be successful, and I think that'll never change," Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz said.

"It is another in-state and we have to respect that. But I think again, I think it's it's another opponent that we have to treat as faceless and nameless, no matter who we play each week do matter what they're ranked. What does not matter? It's it's how well can we prepare," Iowa linebacker Cam Buffington added.

Iowa is set to host UNI on Saturday for a 3 p.m. kickoff. This marks the 19th meeting between the two programs with Iowa leading the all-time series 17-1. UNI's lone series win came back in 1898.
