The Detroit Lions are up against the New Orleans Saints at home for their season opener on Sunday. Expectations are high, and Dan Campbell, Brad Holmes and company are trying to piece together the perfect lineup to make a real championship run.
One day before the game, the Lions made two roster moves. They involved two players who haven't been in the spotlight much as of late.
Lions make two roster moves before season opener
On Saturday, the Lions announced that they've re-signed defensive end Levi Onwuzurike to the practice squad and elevated defensive lineman Ben Stille from the practice squad to the active/inactive list.
The Lions selected Onwuzurike in the second round of the 2021 draft. He's been in free agency but hasn't had any takers, so he's probably happy to be back with Campbell and the crew.
Campbell has previously said glowing things about Stille.
"He's got versatility, strong, very strong. He can shed blocks - shock, shed, make plays - and kind of knows himself, knows what he is, knows his own limitations and can play fast enough to cover up for some of those," Campbell said, according to the Detroit News.
"But that's what's the intrigue with him is the versatility, man," Campbell added. "He can play some big end, we think. He can play the nose, certainly, and then three (technique) if you need it. So the more you can do and the more that you can prove you can do, that is always going to help your case."
So, the Lions have shaken up their roster a bit. The main pieces are still in place, and these are minor changes, but they could make a difference come game time.
