EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — The University of Evansville men's soccer team is gearing up to host their second ranked opponent of the season in the 22nd ranked Louisville Cardinals.

The Purple Aces are still looking for their first win of the season in what has been a competitive preseason so far. UE has played some stiff competition in their non-conference schedule resulting in an early (0-3-1) record. They've faced the likes of a ranked Indiana team, Northwestern, and Kentucky. Coming off a 1-1 tie against the Wildcats, head coach Robbe Tarver said these are the type of teams they want to face to get to where they want to go this year.

"We want to play the best teams in the country," he said. "We want to be playing important games in November against big opponents. And I think in order to prepare yourself for that, you've got to play them in August and September like we're doing right now. You know we want to be tested by the best, these guys on the team want to play the best. And we think that we can beat them, that's why we schedule them. We don't play any game that we don't think we can win."

Evansville and Louisville have had quite the series over the last couple of season including multiple matches that included four or more yellow cards. UE actually leads the all-time series (11-6-1) including a 3-1 win last season. The Purple Aces and the Cardinals face off Tuesday, September 8th, at 7 p.m. in Arad McCutchan Stadium.
