Central Illinois high school football kickoff times pushed back due to extreme heat

CENTRAL ILLINOIS (WCIA) -- A number of high school football games are having their start times pushed back Friday as a result of the hot weather.

At approximately noon on Friday, Monticello High School Athletic Director Dan Sheehan told a WCIA reporter that the school's weather stats for the field show a heat index of 109 degrees. They are just one of many schools pushing back kickoff times due to the extreme heat.
Cooling centers open to help Central Illinois residents beat the heatIn a Facebook post, Effingham Unit 40 said that due to the heat advisory, their game at Breese Mater Dei has been pushed back from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. BHRA High School made a similar post, pushing their kickoff back from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. They said they're doing this in an effort to keep athletes, coaches, officials and fans safe.
Springfield Public Schools made a Facebook post as well and said the kickoffs for both the Jacksonville at Springfield and Sacred Heart-Griffin at Springfield Southeast games had been pushed from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. as a result of the heat wave, with gates opening one hour before kickoff.
