Quinn Ewers traded to Jacksonville Jaguars. How does former Texas Longhorns QB fit?

The NFL journey for Quinn Ewers took a turn this weekend.
The former Texas football quarterback was traded ahead of NFL cut-down day, when teams must reduce their rosters to 53 players for the regular season. Ewers, who was drafted in the seventh-round last year by the Miami Dolphins, won't have to travel far for his new home.

The Jacksonville Jaguars, located about 350 miles north of Miami, traded a sixth-round pick to the Dolphins for Ewers. He'll now backup former No. 1 overall draft pick Trevor Lawrence. Ewers spent most of last season as Miami's third-string quarterback. But he did appear in four games, making three starts for the Dolphins, completing 66.3% of his pass attempts for 622 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions.
Ewers, 23, was thought to have a shot at the backup job for a Miami team that cut ties with No. 5 pick Tua Tagovailoa after five seasons. But Ewers attempted just eight passes in the preseason.
How does Quinn Ewers fit?
The Dolphins brought in Malik Willis to be their starter on an $67.5 million contract. Miami ended up swapping out the two passers it featured in exhibition games (Cam Miller and Mark Gronkowski). Kyle McCord and Brady Cook will now back up Willis after being acquired by the Dolphins this past weekend.
In Jacksonville, the former Longhorn is the only other quarterback on the 53-man roster besides Lawrence. The Jags did sign two passers to its practice squad but it looks like Ewers will be the next man up should anything go awry with the former Clemson star. The Jaguars are expected to compete for the AFC South title in 2026 behind a talented offense and second-year head coach Liam Coen.
