Authorities have closed the investigation into the drowning death of Buffalo Bills player Ed Oliver’s son.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office announced on Monday, Aug. 24 that investigators found “no criminal findings” in connection with the toddler’s June 28 death, which happened at a residence just outside of Houston.
“The incident was thoroughly investigated by detectives, and their finding were no criminal findings. The case is now closed,” a police statement said.
Police said the toddler, who was also named Ed and who was just shy of his second birthday, was found unresponsive in a swimming pool at a home in Huffman, which is northeast of downtown Houston. The child was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The case’s closing comes days after the team announced the child’s death. The Bills organization had been aware of the accident since June, ESPN reported.
“On behalf of the entire Buffalo Bills organization, we want to publicly express our condolences to Ed Oliver and his family on the devastating loss of his son,” Bills general manager Brandon Beane said in a statement shared on social media on Saturday, Aug. 22. “It’s an unthinkable tragedy for any parent. We will continue to support Ed and his family as we all grieve this tragic loss.”
New father Josh Allen also shared his thoughts after the Bills’ announcement.
“Obviously, very unfortunate what happened and as a teammate of him, as someone in this locker room, all we can do is love on him,” Allen, 30, said following Buffalo’s 31-7 preseason win at Cleveland on Saturday.
He added, “There’s nothing that you can say to make the situation any better except being there in whatever ways he needs. I can’t imagine what he’s going through. But the way that he’s dealt with it has been unbelievable.”
Oliver, 28, participated in training camp and played in the team’s first preseason game against Carolina. He has missed the past week of practice due to an undisclosed injury, the Associated Press reported.
