Gill was struck on his right thumb by a delivery from one of the pacers while batting in the nets on Thursday, the second day of India's training in Sri Lanka. The 26-year-old was visibly in pain and received immediate treatment from the team physio, who applied a band-aid before Gill resumed his batting session.
His discomfort did not end there. Later in the day, Gill appeared to hurt his right hand again during slip-catching practice, forcing him to stop fielding drills and apply an ice pack. The double blow briefly raised alarm within an India camp already stretched thin by injuries.
