The Las Vegas Aces’ Thursday night contest against the Indiana Fever was quite the eventful one. Before the game, which the Aces won, 86-84, ended with a bang in overtime, Jackie Young had some testy moments with fans in the stands in the third quarter. The Aces guard was engaging in a bit of banter, but at the 4:38 mark of the third quarter, following a dead ball, she decided that what was said to her had gone too far.

Young then asked for the officials to kick out the two fans who were responsible for the remarks that the Aces guard believed had crossed a line. The officials and security personnel then obliged Young on her request.

After the game, Aces head coach Becky Hammon believes that it would not have bothered Young had the remark the fan made not crossed a boundary.

“Something was said to get her attention over there,” Hammon said, via Aya Abdeen of The IX Sports.

Young clarified what went on between her and the fan during her postgame presser. While she wouldn’t reveal what was said to her that urged her to call the attention of the officials, she did shed some light on the nature of the exchange.

“He was just chirping all game and I let him have it. Then he just made one that was a little bit too far,” Young said, per Tony East of Forbes Sports.

The Fever also released a statement regarding this turn of events. They wrote that the two fans were not asked to leave, but rather, they decided to remove themselves from the arena out of their own accord. Security, according to the team’s statement, “determined that there was no violation of the Fan Code of Conduct”.

Whatever the case may be, the Aces guard felt that she was no longer safe enough with those two in the stands and she made the decision to protect herself against any possible verbal harm.
