According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Patriots are having free agent guard Greg Van Roten in for a visit on Thursday.
Van Roten has played in 11 seasons in the NFL. He most recently played for the New York Giants as their starting right guard from 2024-25. He allowed three sacks and 26 total pressures last season with the Giants.
Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf was on the Green Bay Packers’ staff when the team signed Van Roten in 2012 upon his entry into the league.
The Patriots have veteran Mike Onwenu as their starting right guard. New England also signed Alijah Vera-Tucker in free agency this offseason to be the team’s starting left guard.
With Jared Wilson’s switch from left guard to center this offseason, as well as Vera-Tucker’s injury history, having most recently missed the entire 2025 season due to a torn triceps, the Patriots will evaluate Van Roten for depth at the guard slot for the season.
