Hubert Davis Speaks Up on Caleb Wilson's Showing During NBA Summer League

Former North Carolina star Caleb Wilson has enjoyed a lot of success in the NBA Summer League, though some have started to take it to a different level. While Wilson has clearly shown he has a chance to be not only a good NBA player but eventually a superstar, I don't think it's fair to criticize some of what we saw at North Carolina because of what's being described as coaching problems.

Ultimately, the Tar Heels decided to move on from head coach Hubert Davis and bring in Michael Malone. Some believe that Davis didn't do a good enough job of developing his players or letting them be who they are, and after Wilson made comments that his job wasn't to shoot the three at a high level at North Carolina, it certainly brought up the question of why that wasn't the case.
I don't think that's very fair, however, and it doesn't sound like there were ever any problems between the two sides, as Davis recently spoke about what he's seen from the young man and how proud he is of everything he's done so far.
“It was such a blessing and honor to be there to watch him get drafted. Caleb and I have known each other such a long time,” Davis said during the second quarter of Chicago’s game vs. Utah on ESPN’s broadcast, per Rodd Baxley.
“I’ve never, out of all the players I’ve been around, I’ve never been around somebody that is as good as a basketball player, but just as good as a person and as a teammate. I’m just so happy for him… “People are making a big deal – and they should – that he made seven 3s in his first preseason game,” Davis said.
“This is a guy that, before and after practice, in the mornings, late at night, he’d always be in the gym working on his shot.”
That second point is perhaps the most interesting of the bunch. Wilson has continued to show that he's not only a really good guy but also a big-time competitor.
I'm excited to see how that continues to look for the Chicago Bulls, as the early returns for Chicago have been very promising, to say the least.
