"It has robbed our nation of a remarkable footballer, but it will never take away the legacy Jayden Adams leaves behind. We will forever remember his humility, his extraordinary talent and the pride with which he represented South Africa."
South Africa's Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie also confirmed the death on X.
"It is with profound shock and a heavy heart that I have learnt of the passing of Jayden Adams, midfielder for Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana, at the age of 25," the minister wrote.
Details of the cause of death have not been given. The BBC said police in South Africa have launched an investigation after his body was found on Saturday morning in a house in a suburb of Cape Town.
Adams played in all three group matches for South Africa at the recent World Cup. Bafana Bafana lost 1-0 to co-hosts Canada in the last 32 but Adams was an unused substitute.
At club level, the midfielder had played since 2025 for Mamelodi Sundowns, one of South Africa's best clubs.
