This is certainly not ideal for the New York Yankees

The AL East club has lost six games in a row, but its problems keep growing larger.

Before Wednesday's matinee against the Detroit Tigers, manager Aaron Boone revealed that several players are battling food poisoning.

“We got hit with food poisoning or some kind of bug [Tuesday] night, so we’ve got IVs going and everything today,” Boone told MLB.com's Bryan Hoch. “It’s been an interesting week on a lot of fronts. … I got a lot of messages about overnight stuff from a number of guys.”

Outfielder Spencer Jones was scratched from the lineup due to the food poisoning outbreak in the Yankees' clubhouse.

Third baseman Ryan McMahon, dealing with a similar issue, was set to play a rehab game at Double-A Somerset. McMahon, who could return this week after an IL stint due to an ear and throat infection, was also scratched from the lineup.

"Boone said others are experiencing issues, including some in Wednesday’s lineup, but declined to name them," Hoch added.

This is terrible timing for the Yankees. Their offense has been borderline invisible over the last week.

Their pitching and defensive performances haven't been much better.

Thursday's off day may be much needed.
