Tensions between the two clubs are high right now after Alvarez publicly expressed his desire to leave while with Argentina at the tournament in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

Atletico are pretty angry with the situation and have insisted they want Alvarez to stay. Yet the forward wants to go and Barcelona are eager to make his wishes come true.

The latest update on the saga comes from The Athletic and a brief report that states “all signs” point to Barcelona making a €130m bid. Sources at the club “insist they can afford it” despite Barca’s well-documented financial issues.

Mundo Deportivo are also reporting that Barca won’t give up on Alvarez and “will pull out all the stops to try and sign him” this summer. The club also feel they can’t rush things due to the player’s involvement at World Cup 2026.

Atletico will then have a big decision to make if Barca do send in big bid. Diego Simeone is reportedly in favor of a sale as he doesn’t want players who are not 100% committed to the cause in his squad.
