The Golden State Warriors signed Kristaps Porzingis to a contract extension on Monday.

It's for two years and $40 million, according to multiple reports. And the biggest takeaway is this -- it's going to be a lot harder to get LeBron James and Anthony Davis now.

The rumors have been swirling about LeBron and AD.

For James, it'd be a free agent signing. Davis would need to be traded for from the Washington Wizards.

Except all along, Porzingis' potential salary cap hit seemed like it wouldn't work with those acquisitions.

In fact, an article earlier on Monday from The Athletic's John Hollinger suggested that to make it work, the Warriors would probably have to let Porzingis go.

Only hours later, they were signing him.

Hollinger updated his article to include this blurb:

"Trading Butler and draft capital to the Wizards for Davis would add about $1.5 million to the Warriors’ books. Add in the already agreed-upon deals with Al Horford and Kristaps Porzingis adds another $26 million. If second-rounder Lajae Jones signs for the rookie minimum of $1.3 million, there are three roster spots left to fill and nearly $14 million below the projected first apron line with which to do it. The Warriors couldn’t accommodate the entire MLE for James in this scenario, but they could pay him about $9 million."

It's also worth noting that they pretty much have to trade Butler to do the Davis move.

So really, it's a core of James, Davis, Steph Curry and Draymond Green. Is that good enough? You can be the judge.

But the Porzingis move may signal that the Warriors don't actually see this happening -- or they've got some other trick up their sleeve.
