Per Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, the Detroit Lions are expected to hire Michigan assistant director of personnel John Collins as a scouting assistant.

Collins has worked at Michigan since 2024. Prior to his Michigan stint, Collins spent two years at Georgia as a personnel and recruiting analyst. Collins also previously served as a scouting and recruiting assistant for Temple and as a training camp player personnel intern for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Georgia won the national championship to cap the 2022 college football season while Collins was in Athens, Ga.

Collins joins a Lions franchise that has authored four consecutive winning seasons, including a trip to the NFC championship game in 2023 and a 2024 campaign where the Lions entered the playoffs with a 15-2 record and the NFC's No. 1 seed.

Collins is the latest offseason addition to the Lions' personnel department. Detroit also hired former Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier to its front office as a personnel executive.

Grier, who was fired by the Dolphins midway through last season, served as Miami’s general manager for a full decade from 2016-25. During Grier's tenure, the Dolphins posted five winning seasons, including four straight from 2020-23, and made the playoffs three times.
