Manchester City pushed Arsenal deep into another title fight, but this time Mikel Arteta’s side did not crack.

For Haaland, the result carried an extra layer because the player lifting the trophy for City’s biggest domestic rival is also one of his most important Norway teammates.

Erling Haaland praises Martin Odegaard’s title win

Speaking after Arsenal’s Premier League triumph, Daily AFC shared Erling Haaland’s classy response to Martin Odegaard becoming a title-winning captain.

Haaland said, “When you get the most points, you deserve to win the league, so congrats to Martin. It’s well deserved.

“He deserves this trophy. It’ll be tough to see him lift the trophy, but it’s fantastic when a Norwegian lifts the Premier League trophy,” the Man City star added.

The answer struck the right balance between disappointment and respect. Haaland clearly wanted Manchester City to finish the job, but he also understood what the moment meant for Odegaard.

Odegaard has been central to Arsenal’s rise under Arteta, not only as a creative midfielder but as the captain trusted to front a team that had suffered three straight second-place finishes before finally getting over the line.

Arsenal finally hold off Manchester City

Arsenal’s title win felt heavier because of the opponent they had to outlast and the history they had to shake off.

The Gunners secured their first Premier League title in 22 years after Manchester City drew 1-1 at Bournemouth, leaving Pep Guardiola’s side four points behind with one match left.

That result ended Arsenal’s wait since the 2003-04 Invincibles season and stopped another City surge from turning into a familiar late heartbreak.

The title race had looked ready to swing back toward City in April, when Haaland scored in a 2-1 win over Arsenal that cut the gap and reopened the battle. Arsenal responded by holding their nerve through the run-in, while City’s dropped points at Bournemouth made the final day irrelevant at the top.

The Premier League confirmed City could no longer catch Arsenal after that draw. Haaland’s words landed because they recognized that reality. City chased hard, but Odegaard and Arsenal earned the trophy by surviving the pressure that had broken them before.
