Some of you might be wondering what exactly is the SoFi Center? Even those of you already familiar with the arena, located on the campus of Palm Beach State College in Palm Beach Gardens, likely have never set foot inside the facility.
As a public-service announcement, The Post is here today to tell you all about SoFi Center.
What is the SoFi Center and what happens there?
The SoFi Center opened on the Palm Beach State College campus on PGA Boulevard on Jan. 7, 2025 for the inaugural TGL season. It holds about 1,500 for the interactive, tech-infused golf league partly founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. It will be the home of the WTGL - a women's professional golf league - starting this fall.
The facility also has turned into a multiuse venue between golf seasons, hosting events such as the recent All Elite Wrestling program, held on May 9 and aired live on TNT, as well as private functions - including Bills quarterback Josh Allen's bachelor party.
SoFi has hosted more than 100 events outside of TGL.
How did SoFi Center get built?
What became the SoFi Center was built on a 10-acre parcel of unused land at the school's Palm Beach Gardens campus off RCA Boulevard. The partnership between TMRW Sports, the company behind TGL, and Palm Beach State College included educational and recreational initiatives that will benefit PBSC students. TMWR Sports also gifted $1 million to PBSC as part of the agreement to build on campus.
The original home for TGL's inaugural season was supposed to be a 250,000-square foot white dome structure topped by an air-inflated roof that would reach an indoors height of 75 feet. However, a power outage in November 2023 caused the arena's inflated roof to collapse and led to the remainder of the air-supported structure to be deflated.
While there were no injuries and no damage to any technology at the arena, plans were altered to ditch the inflated roof for a redesigned arena made of steel with a traditional roof instead of a bubble and postponing the opening of TGL from January 2024 to January 2025.
That proved to be a benefit for all involved. From planning and construction timelines, to player schedules and the primetime sports television calendar, all was ready for the first TGL matches.
"I think it was a blessing in disguise," said Woods, at the time. "We were rushing to get it ready. I don't think we had all the components we have now, and we certainly didn't have the technology we're able to have now. It worked out for the best for us as players, for the fans, and I think for everyone watching."
Celebrities spotted at SoFi Center
Since its opening, SoFi Center has attracted its share of celebrities. Many of the owners of TGL would qualify in that category, including tennis superstar Serena Williams and her husband, Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian (Los Angeles Golf Club), John Henry (Red Sox, Boston Common Golf), Steven A. Cohen (Mets, New York GC) and Arthur Blank (Falcons, Atlanta Drive GC).
While Donald Trump has yet to set foot inside the place, his former daughter-in-law, Vanessa Trump, and granddaughter, Kai Trump, have been there.
Here are some others spotted at SoFi Center during TGL matches the last two years: Celine Dion, Annika Sorenstam, Michelle Wie, Lexi Thompson, Matthew Tkachuk, Josh Allen, Tom Brady, Mark Ingram, Eli Manning, Travis Kelce (without Taylor Swift), Jacoby Brissett, Jeff Conine, Trea Turner, Nolan Arenado, Juan Soto, Chipper Jones, Jay Monahan, Kyle Larson, Livvy Dunne, Warren Sapp, Gary Bettman, Dominique Dawes and Jozy Altidore.
