Bavarian Loan Works: Nübel helps Stuttgart earn Pokal Final berth against Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich loanees were busy this week as we saw some cup fixtures played and end of season races heating up. Boey and Peretz suffered losses in their team’s cups while Nübel helped his team get to a final in Berlin. Palhinha scored a winner to keep Spurs’ hopes of survivial alive. We also saw a couple of loanees that we have not seen in a while earn some playing time or bench appearances this week. Nearly all the Bayern loanees are involved in races for league titles, European spots, or to avoid relegation. Check out what each loanee did this week and where they sit going into the final weeks of the domestic seasons in Europe.

Germany – Bundesliga

There are three players from the first team on loan to the German Bundesliga: Alexander Nübel, Arijon Ibrahimović, and Armando Sieb.

Alexander Nübel – VfB Stuttgart

Nübel started for Stuttgart in their DFB-Pokal semifinal at home against Freiburg. He made two early saves before conceding a goal in the 29th minute. He saved one more in regulation just moments before his teammates finally equalized in the 70th minute. Stuttgart would need extra time but finally found a winner in the 119th minute. Nübel’s fourth and final save came came in stoppage time of extra time to save the 2-1 win. Stuttgart will meet Bayern in the Pokal final in Berlin next month.

Stuttgart hosted Bremen in league play on Sunday. Nübel was back in goal for the full match. He allowed a goal on the first shot on goal he faced. He recorded just two saves on the night but held the guests to just one goal. His teammates were able to equalize in the second half again but did not find a winner. Stuttgart settled for the 1-1 draw.

Stuttgart sit in fourth place, currently holding the final Champions League spot by way of a better goal differential than Hoffenheim. They travel to face Hoffenheim on Saturday in a pivotal match in this race for a Champions League spot.

Arijon Ibrahimović – 1. FC Heidenheim

Ibrahimović was on the bench for Heidenheim’s home match against St Pauli. He did not enter the match until the first minute of second half stoppage time when his team already had the match squared away with a 2-0 lead. He had just seven touches and did not record any noteworthy stat.

Heidenheim sit four points out of the relegation playoff spot and nine points from safety. Heidenheim travel to face Bayern on Saturday.

Armindo Sieb – 1. FSV Mainz 05

Mainz hosted Bayern with a chance to secure safety for next season’s Bundesliga season. Sieb saw his team go up 3-0 before halftime from the bench. By the time he entered in the 71st minute, Bayern had scored one goal and then a second two minutes after he came on. Sieb had just one shot attempt — missed high and wide — but did not create a chance for his teammates to shoot. He was not help on defense and saw his parent club come back in the second half with four goals and Mainz fell 4-3 at home to the Champions.

Mainz need just one point to ensure safety and remain in the Bundesliga. They travel to Hamburg to face St Pauli on Sunday.

England – Premier League

There are two players on loan to the English Premier League: João Palhinha and Jonah Kusi-Asare.

João Palhinha – Tottenham

Palhinha started on the bench for Tottenham away to Wolverhampton Wanderers. They needed a win and help to get out of the relegation zone. Palhinha came off the bench in the 62nd minute in a still-scoreless match. 20 minutes later, he had a nicely timed run to barely stay onside and blasted the ball into the back of the net. The much-needed goal was his only shot attempt. Spurs were able to hold off the hosts and earn a 1-0 win.

The win looked to be enough to pull Spurs out of the drop zone, but unfortunately West Ham won late and went up two points ahead of them again. Spurs will be away to Aston Villa on Sunday.

Jonah Kusi-Asare– Fulham

Kusi-Asare was back on the bench for Fulham’s senior team but did not make it onto the pitch for their 1-0 win at home against Aston Villa.

Fulham sit in tenth place with 48 points. They are one point behind a Conference League place and two points behind a Europa League place. They will be in North London on Saturday to face Arsenal.

England – Championship

Daniel Peretz is the only player on loan to England’s Championship.

Daniel Peretz – Southampton

Peretz started for Southampton in league play on Tuesday as they hosted Bristol City. He faced two early shots on goal and allowed a goal in the fifth minute. His team equalized before halftime, but Peretz conceded another goal midway through the second half. Southampton had to equalize again but could not find a winner. On the day, Peretz had four saves and helped his team earn a 1-1 draw.

Southampton had a trip to Wembly on Saturday to face Manchester City in the FA Cup final. Peretz was in goal and shut out the Premier League side through 80 minutes with three saves. Southampton opened the scoring in the 79th minute, but Man City overpowered the second division side with two goals in five minutes to go up 2-1 by the 87th minute. Southampton could not find an equalizer and bowed out of the FA Cup with a 2-1 loss.

Southampton sit in fifth place, four points from the automatic promotion second place. They host Ipswich Town — currently second place — on Tuesday. The final match of the season will be away to Preston North End on Saturday.

Italy – Serie A

Bryan Zaragoza is the only player on loan to Serie A.

Bryan Zaragoza – AS Roma

Zaragoza was on the bench for AS Roma’s 2-0 away win to Bologna but did not make it onto the pitch.

Roma sit in sixth place and would currently earn a Conference League and are just down on goal differential for a Europa League spot. They are also just three points from fourth place and a Champions League spot with four matches left. Their next match will be on Monday, May 4 at home against Fiorentina.

Türkiye – Super Lig

Sacha Boey is the only player on loan to the Turkish Super Lig.

Sacha Boey – Galatasaray

Boey started for Galatasaray on Wednesday in a Cup quarterfinal against Gençlerbirliği, whom they just beat last weekend in league play. Boey had one shot attempt — blocked — and completed 94% of his passes. One defense, he had two tackles, one clearance, two interceptions, and two recoveries. He was subbed out of the match in the 59th minute with his team down 1-0. The guests would find one more goal and Galatasaray crashed out of the Cup with a 2-0 home loss.

In league play, Galatasaray hosted Fenerbahçe with a chance to open a seven-point lead at the top of the table. Boey was on the bench but did not make it into match. His team won 3-0 after Fenerbahçe went down to ten men in the second half.

Galatasaray sit atop the table and would clinch the league with a win this weekend or other favorable results. They face Samsunspor on the road on Saturday.

Switzerland – Super League

Lovro Zvonarek is the only player on loan from the first team to the Swiss Super League.

Lovro Zvonarek – Grasshopper

Zvonarek started for Grasshopper and played 69 minutes at home against Luzern. He created a chance for his teammates to shoot but did not have a shot attempt of his own. He also helped on defense with two clearances, an interception, and four recoveries. He exited the match when it was level 1-1, but just moments later his team conceded a second goal. Grasshopper could not find a winner and fell 2-1 at home.

With four matches left, Grasshopper sit in fifth place of the relegation group — the relegation playoff spot. They are 12 points from safety and hold an eight-point lead over sixth place and automatic relegation. They will host Servette on Sunday.

Germany – 2. Bundesliga

There are two players from the first team on loan to the 2. Bundesliga: Maurice Krattenmacher and Tarek Buchman.

Maurice Krattenmacher – Hertha BSC

Krattenmacher was on the bench for Hertha’s home match against Holstein Kiel. He came off the bench in the 87th minute with his team down 1-0. He completed his only pass attempted and had just one shot attempt — blocked before it even got to the penalty box. He could not help his team find a goal and they fell 1-0.

Hertha sit in sixth place and are nine points behind third place and chance for promotion but only have three matches to try to make it up. Their next match is away to Magdeburg on Sunday.

Tarek Buchman – 1. FC Nürnberg

Buchman started on the bench for Nürnberg in their home match against Magdeburg. He entered the match in the 83rd minute with his team up 1-0. He was able to help his team hold onto the slim lead and shutout with a tackle, a blocked shot, and two clearances in his short time on the field. Nürnberg held onto the 1-0 win at home.

Nürnberg currently sit in eighth place. They are secure in the 2. Bundesliga for next season and cannot earn promotion. Their next match will be to their local rivals, Greuther Fürth on Sunday.

FC Bayern Munich II

There are 15 players on loan from the second team.

Germany – Bundesliga

 Felipe Chávez is the only player on loan from the second team to a Bundesliga team.

Felipe Chávez – 1. FC Köln

Chávez started on the bench for Köln when they hosted Leverkusen on Saturday in the Rhine Derby. He entered the match in the 72nd minute with his team down 2-0. He completed 94% of his passes — misplaying just one — and three shot attempts — one on goal and two blocked. Köln found a goal while Chávez was on the field but never got the equalizer and fell 2-1 at home.

Köln sit in 14th place, five points above the relegation playoff spot. One win would see them safely remain in the Bundesliga for next season. They face Union Berlin — who sit just one point above them — away on Saturday.

Germany – 2. Bundesliga

There are four players on loan from the second team in the 2. Bundesliga: Noël Aséko, Javier Fernández, Grayson Dettoni, and Paul Scholl.

Noël Aséko – Hannover 96

Aséko started for Hannover played the first half away to Karlsruher SC. He did not contribute much, with just 18 touches he could not get a shot off nor create a chance for his teammates to shoot. He was subbed off at halftime with score even at 1-1 and did not get a chance to face his fellow loanee, Scholl. Hannover scored two goals in the second half to win 3-1.

The win puts them into third place — the promotion playoff spot. They sit one point behind second place — automatic promotion — and seven points away from first place, with three matches to go. They host Preussen Münster on Sunday.

Javier Fernández – 1. FC Nürnberg

Fernández started for the second straight match for Nürnberg in their home match against Magdeburg. He had two shot attempts — one on goal and one that missed — and created a chance for a teammate to shoot. He also helped back on defense with three tackles, one clearance, one interception, and five recoveries. Fernández left the match in the 83rd minute with his team up 1-0. They finished the job and earned a 1-0 home win.

Nürnberg currently sit in eighth place. They cannot earn promotion, and though they are not mathematicaly safe, they are not in real danger of going down. Their next match will be to their local rivals, Greuther Fürth on Sunday.

Grayson Dettoni – SV Darmstadt 98

Dettoni was not in the matchday squad for Darmstadt’s 3-3 home draw against SV Elversberg.

Darmstadt sit in fifth place — six points from the playoff spot and seven from automatic promotion. They next face Scholl’s Karlsruher SC on Sunday.

Paul Scholl – Karlsruher SC

After starting most of the first half of the season, Scholl had not appeared for Karlsruhe since February until Saturday’s match at home against Hannover 96. He came into the match in the 66th minute with the match level at 1-1 and had a decent performance. He completed 96& of his passes and filled in statsheet on defense with a tackle, a clearance off the line, another blocked shot, and five other clearances. Despite his performance, Hannover scored a late winner in the 82nd minute and then a penalty goal in the tenth minute of stoppage time to seal the 3-1 home loss for KSC.

KSC sit in ninth place. They cannot be promoted and sit seven points over the safety line. They will host Dettoni’s SV Darmstadt on Sunday.

Germany – 3. Liga

Max Schmitt is the only player on loan in the 3. Liga.

Max Schmitt – SSV Ulm 1846

Schmitt was on the bench as the backup keeper for Ulm in their 3-2 away loss against 1860 Munich.

Ulm sit in 18th place and are eight points below safety with three matches left. Their next match will be at home against Viktoria Köln on Saturday.

Germany – Regionalliga

There are two players on loan in the Regionalliga Südwest: Benedikt Wimmer and David Emmanuel and three players on loan to the Regionalliga Bayern: Gibson Adu, Richard Meier, and Jason Eckl.

Benedikt Wimmer – SV Sandhausen

Wimmer started on the bench for SV Sandhausen away to FC Bayern Alzenau. He entered the match in the 89th minute with his team up 2-1 and helped his team keep the hosts from finding an equalizer. Sandhausen held on to win 2-1 away.

Sandhausen sit in fourth place but promotion from the Regionalliga Südwest has already been clinched. They will face TSV Schott Mainz on Saturday.

David Emmanuel – Hessen Kassel

Emmanuel was not in the matchday squad for Kassel’s 2-2 home draw against TSG Ballingen.

Kassel sits in ninth place. They have no real danger of being relegated but can clinch a spot in the fourth division with one more win in the last three matches. Their next match will away to SV Eintracht-Trier.

Gibson Adu – Unterhaching

Adu was not in the matchday squad for Unterhaching’s 3-2 win away to SpVgg Bayreuth.

Richard Meier – Unterhaching

Meier started on the bench for Unterhaching and entered the match in the 73rd minute with the match level 2-2. Unterhaching scored a late winner in the eighth minute of stoppage time and won 3-2.

Jason Eckl – Unterhaching

Eckl was not in the matchday squad for Unterhaching’s 3-2 win away to SpVgg Bayreuth.

Unterhaching sits in second place, two points behind FC Nürnberg II in first place, who has a match in hand. Champions of the Regionalliga Bayern will face the winners of the Regionalliga Ost for a spot in the 3. Liga. Unterhaching will host FC Memmingen on Saturday.

Switzerland – Super League

Johnathan Asp Jensen is the only player from the second team on loan to the Swiss Super League.

Johnathan Asp Jensen – Grasshopper

Asp started and played the full 90 minutes for Grasshopper at home against Luzern. He had three shots — two on goal and one that missed — and created two chances for his teammates to shoot. He also helped back on defense with a tackle, a clearance, and seven recoveries. Unfortunately his contributions were not enough to help his team find a win and Grasshopper fell 2-1 at home.

With four matches left, Grasshopper sit in fifth place of the relegation group — the relegation playoff spot. They are 12 points from safety and hold an eight-point lead over sixth place and automatic relegation. They will host Servette on Sunday.

Austria – Bundesliga

There are two players on loan to the Austrian Bundesliga: Maximillian Hennig and Jussef Nasarawe.

Maximillian Hennig – TSV Hartberg

Hennig started on the bench as Hartberg hosted LASK. He came into the match at halftime when his team were down 2-0. LASK scored another just seconds into the second half and Hartberg puled back their only goal in the 48th minute. Hennig did not contribute much to the match and LASK ran away with a 5-1 win away to Hartberg.

Hartberg sit in sixth place of the Championship group — the only spot in the top six that does not earn a playoff spot for a European spot. They are one point behind a playoff spot for the Conference League with three matches left. They face Austria Wien on Sunday.

Jussef Nasrawe – SV Ried

Nasrawe was on the bench for the first half of Ried’s match away to WSG Tirol. He came into the scoreless match at halftime. He did not have a shot attempt but created two chances for his teammates to shoot, including one big chance missed. He also helped on defense with a tackle, two clearances, and two recoveries. A lone own goal by Ried led to a 1-0 loss on the road.

Despite the loss, Ried are in first place of the Relegation group. They can ensure safety with one more win in the last three matches. They have a two-point lead at the top. The top spot earns a playoff spot for Austria’s Conference League spot. They will face BW Linz on Saturday.

Italy – Serie D

Magnus Dalpiaz is the only player on loan to Italy’s Serie D.

Magnus Dalpiaz – Milan Futuro

Milan’s U23 won 3-1 away to Castellanzese on Sunday.

Milan will face last place Vogherese on Sunday in the last match of the season. They currently sit in fourth place and will clinch a playoff spot for promotion with a win or most likely with a draw.

FC Bayern Munich Frauen

There is one player on loan from the women’s team.

Brazil – Brasileirão Feminino

Ana Guzmán is the only player on loan to Brazil’s Brasileirão Feminino.

Ana Guzmán – SE Palmeiras

Palmeiras faced Fluminese away on Tuesday. Guzmán was on the bench for the first half and came into the match at halftime with the match level 1-1 after both teams swapped early goals. She had just one clearance and two recoveries and completed 90% of her passes. She helped her team not concede anymore goals which led to a teammate finding a winner in the eighth minute of stoppage time. The match ended in a 2-1 win away.

Guzmán started for Palmeiras at home on Monday. Her teammate at centerback received a red card in the 39th minute, putting pressure on Guzmán and the rest of the team. Despite this, they were able to overcome the adversity and kept a shutout at home. Unfortunately her teammates were not able to score a goal and the match ended in a scoreless draw at home.

Palmeiras fell to second place, but are just eight matches into their early season. They will travel to face Bahia on Saturday.
