After taking care of Wake Forest 71-62 in its tournament opener on Wednesday, Brad Brownell’s Tigers will face North Carolina for the second time in nine days in a quarterfinal matchup at Spectrum Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. ET.

Clemson (23-9) took control early against Wake Forest behind a strong shooting performance in the first half. The Tigers knocked down nine three-pointers before halftime and shot 50 percent from the field to build a 41-23 lead at the break. Four Clemson players had six points in the opening half, RJ Godfrey, Butta Johnson, Ace Buckner and freshman forward Dallas Thomas, as the Tigers led by as many as 20 points.

Godfrey finished with a team-high 11 points and eight rebounds in 25 minutes, while freshman Chase Thompson added nine points off the bench. Wake Forest closed the gap somewhat after halftime, outscoring Clemson 39-30 in the second half, but the Tigers held on to advance.

North Carolina (24-7) won the first meeting between the teams this month, defeating Clemson 67-63 in Chapel Hill on March 3. The Tar Heels enter the ACC Tournament after dropping their regular-season finale at Duke, 76-61.

Thursday’s game will be the 163rd meeting in the series, with North Carolina holding a 137-25 all-time edge. The matchup will air nationally on ESPN, with Dave O’Brien and Cory Alexander on the call and Molly McGrath reporting from the sidelines.
