McCoy's shot sent a jam-packed Dandley Gym into bedlam and sends the No. 3 Hornets (23-3) on to a quarterfinal matchup back at home on Thursday night against No. 6 Newington (19-5), which also won on a buzzer-beater. Silas Jefferson's shot carried the Nor'easters to a 66-64 victory over No. 11 Hillhouse.

Against No. 14 Bloomfield, East Hartford fell behind 53-51 when Kahil Bell hit a pair of free throws for the Warhawks with eight seconds left.

With East Hartford inbounding from the far base line after a timeout, Malachi Hymes got the ball over half court, then handed off to McCoy as he came off a screen. McCoy launched his shot from the edge of the Hornet logo at mid-court and it caught the backboard square dead center and ricocheted cleanly through the twine.

McCoy finished with a team-high 21 points, with 11 coming in the fourth quarter, when the lead switched hands nine times. Kehari Walker added 13 for East Hartford.

Bloomfield, which matched East Hartford's quickness and prowess under the boards, got 18 points from Bell, including a four-point play on a made 3-pointer midway through the fourth quarter. Rob Hall added 13 points for the Warhawks and D'lor Burgos had 10.
