Ward suffered three separate concussions during the 2025 season. Twice, he was placed on injured reserve, and after the second concussion -- which occurred when running into Drew Ogletree during warmups -- Ward had symptoms that lingered for some time.
After the season, Ward was unsure about his NFL future.
“If I do come back and play again, if I get one more (concussion), I’ll for sure probably retire," said Ward during locker cleanout. “The more I beat my brain up, the more it’ll affect me as I get older. … I gotta think about my family and kids, too. So, we’ll see. …”

However, nearly two months removed from the NFL regular season, from the sounds of it, Ward is looking to play in 2026.
"He's in a good frame of mind. I'm not in the hypotheticals of what's gonna happen, but his frame of mind is really good right now," Ballard said via Colts.com.
"...I don't want to stay still deciding, but all indications is he's wanting to move forward and play."
In seven games, Ward allowed a completion rate of 57% on 37 targets with seven pass breakups, according to Pro Football Focus.
When he was on the field, the Lou Anarumo defense operated differently and was more aggressive with Ward's ability to lock down half the field as a coverage defender.
"I had conversations with him a couple days ago, and he's in a good headspace, feeling good," Shane Steichen said. "So we're excited for what the future holds."
