Box score, MVP and Twitter reactions to Kentucky’s brutal defeat at Auburn
· Yahoo Sports
Down 66-60 with just over three minutes remaining, things were looking bleak for the Wildcats. Then, just as he has so many times in his two seasons with the Wildcats, Otega Oweh took over.

Oweh finished with a game-high and career-high 29 points, but it wasn’t enough.
Keshawn Murphy’s put-back jumper with just over a second remaining gave Auburn a 75-74 lead. Malachi Moreno couldn’t handle the ensuing inbounds pass, and Kentucky fell for the third straight time since winning seven of eight games.
First Half
Malachi Moreno scored the first basket for Kentucky on their first possession. That was the good thing. The not-so-good thing was that he went down with what looked like an ankle injury. Good news: He got up on his own power and quickly returned to the bench and returned to the game three minutes later. Moreno scored four points in the first four-plus minutes for Kentucky.
As with most Kentucky games this season, the first half saw Auburn in the driver’s seat. Brandon Garrison picked up three fouls in the first 10:22 of the game, and Collin Chandler also had two in the first four minutes.
Shooting, though, wasn’t the issue for Kentucky. It was rebounding. The Wildcats struggled to keep Auburn off the offensive glass.
But the Wildcats made enough shots to not let Auburn pull away, and it led to a 7-0 run by Kentucky to end the first half. They went from down 35-32 to leading 39-35 at halftime, highlighted by an Otega Oweh and-one dunk that led to a three-pointer play.
Kentucky also led the rebound battle 19-15, including 8-7 on the offensive glass. The Wildcats held Auburn scoreless for the final 2:48 of the first half, and the Tigers missed 12 of their final 14 shots.
Second Half
The Cats came out and started the second half exactly like they needed to. They started with a 7-2 run to extend the lead to 46-37.
Then, though, Auburn responded with a 10-2 run to cut it to 48-47. Kentucky had a stretch where they missed 10 of 11 shots, but their defense dug in and held Auburn to a field goal drought that covered almost three minutes.
With Kentucky trailing 57-54 with 6:53 remaining, Otega Oweh reentered the game with four fouls. He proceeded to make two straight driving layups to pull Kentucky even at 59-59.
Auburn, though, got hot and took a 64-60 lead into the under-four media timeout.
Oweh hit a three to make it 68-66 with 2:36 remaining, and his driving layup tied the game with 2:01 to play.
Then, with less than a minute to play, Kentucky got a steal. You know what happened next. Oweh took it and slammed it home to give Kentucky the lead…
Sadly, after some back-and-forth free throws, Kentucky had the ball up one but committed an offensive foul after Collin Chandler pushed off.
After that, Auburn got three attempts for the game-winner before Elyjah Freeman got a put-back with one second remaining, and the Tigers came away with the 75-74 win.
Box Score
MVP: Otega Oweh. Duh!
Oweh was in attack mode all night, breaking away for dunks, getting to his spots, and hitting shots. He also got in the middle of the lane for rebounds, tying for the team lead in that category.
With less than a minute remaining, Oweh punctuated his night with a go-ahead slam dunk off a steal. How many times have we seen that?!
Even though it wasn’t enough, Oweh has been playing behind all season.

OWEH!!!!!!!! Nasty

Oweh looks like he's ready to have a second half. As loose as he's looked all year.

There are few things I've wanted more than for that three to drop for Trent Noah. He just needs to see one go in!

Still, a good half for the Cats, despite all the foul trouble. Finished with a 7-0 run. Keep fighting hard!
Kentucky dealt with foul trouble, only hit two 3s, and lost free throws+turnovers.

BUT
+4 on the scoreboard thanks to two-pt efficiency (58.3% vs. 42.1%) and the glass (+4).
Very good half from where I’m sitting. One good run could win this. pic.twitter.com/QsnKR7JU8Y
Kentucky with a 7-0 run to end the first half, and an early 7-0 run to start the second half.

Won the middle stretch of the game. That’s big.
Leading Auburn 46-37.
I hope Jelavic comes back and sees his development through under Pope

He’s got a ton of tools, needs to round out some areas to his game, but he produces
Kentucky is in the middle of an awful stretch and still leads in the road. Take a breath, recover, finish.

Kentucky has made a ton of mistakes and can’t hit from deep
— Matt Jones (@KySportsRadio) February 22, 2026
But they are up 3 on the road with 12 minutes to go….they can win this game. Lots of dudes are playing insanely hard, even if not always well
Gotta watch your head around Otega Oweh

Can we please T up players who flop? Been begging for years
— Darrell Bird (@DarrellBird) February 22, 2026
Nothing Pope can do about it but the team is clearly exhausted.
— T.J. Walker (@TJWalkerRadio) February 22, 2026
After many games of Collin Chandler not being able to miss, tonight he can’t seem to get one to go through.
— Dylan Ballard (@DylanBallard_UK) February 22, 2026
He is visibly frustrated.
Auburn’s defense is forcing the Kentucky offense to play way too far away from the rim. The Cats have to burst that bubble.
— Nick Roush (@RoushKSR) February 22, 2026
Abysmal half here by Chandler and UK looks completely out of sorts
— Matt Jones (@KySportsRadio) February 22, 2026
I get it, you’re playing on the road without three key injured players, but when you’re up nine points in the second half, Kentucky has to find a way to finish and beat Auburn on the road. #BBN

Oweh and Aberdeen trying to win this game for Kentucky on sheer will alone
— Matt Jones (@KySportsRadio) February 22, 2026
Those two dudes are battlers
Officiating has been not great. But it’s what happens on the road. You gotta be good enough to overcome that.
— Steven Peake (@StevenPeakeKSR) February 22, 2026
Wow!!! What a comeback from a poor stretch!!
— Dylan Ballard (@DylanBallard_UK) February 22, 2026
Otega Oweh!!!
Chandler did extend his arms (which was dumb) but you that is a terrible call at this point in the game

9 losses with 3 games left we’ll be underdogs in. We used to be a blue blood program pic.twitter.com/PwydyFdz1R
— Cody Couch (@Couch_29) February 22, 2026
Even with that crap call, Kentucky gave Auburn three looks at it in last 14 seconds and Garrison blocked no one out and wasn’t close to the basket
— Matt Jones (@KySportsRadio) February 22, 2026
We would have stolen that game if we won
Losing in the same week to both Mike White and Steven Pearl is a very, very bad look.
