Texas A&M basketball escapes Norman with 75-71 win over Oklahoma
· Yahoo Sports
Oklahoma's late charge gave Texas A&M a massive scare, but the Aggies found a way to capture a 75-71 victory over the Sooners at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman on Saturday night.
After a fast 8-0 run from Texas A&M in the first three minutes of the contest, Oklahoma surged back and kept Aggie shooters at bay. Another dominant performance from graduate forward Rashaun Agee was too much for the Sooners in the end. Agee led the team with 18 points and seven rebounds, followed by Rylan Griffen with 14 points in the Aggies' ninth conference victory of the season.

There is no sugarcoating it -- this was a game Bucky McMillan's squad needed to win. With Texas A&M's résumé of wins in decline, the program could not afford to drop a matchup against the 13th-ranked team in the SEC entering the weekend. With a successful outing against Oklahoma, Texas A&M's postseason hopes remain intact.

Texas A&M's shooting was much improved on Saturday night, as the Aggies shot 44% from the field and 40% from 3-point range in the win. While there were slight improvements from an overall shooting perspective, the team shot just 55% from the free-throw line and allowed 21 second-chance points. Those concerns will be amplified entering what could be a make-or-break matchup against No. 20 Arkansas in Fayetteville on Wednesday night.
The Aggies must find ways to play clean basketball moving forward, especially inside the paint. Texas A&M has struggled to establish a physical presence inside, which has proven costly throughout the final stretch of SEC play. Opponents know how to exploit that weakness by keeping the Aggies contained and forcing Texas A&M's 3-point shooters into inconsistent shots. A date with the Razorbacks will reveal where McMillan's squad stands as the regular season nears its conclusion.
Texas A&M will travel to Bud Walton Arena to face Arkansas on Wednesday. Tipoff against the Razorbacks is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ESPN2.
