Lottery luck could dramatically alter the trajectory of the Milwaukee Bucks, as the team isin somewhat of a weird spot. The Bucks played well before the All-Star break and might be getting healthy, but they still have a chance to add a decent player in this upcoming draft if the balls fall the right way.
In a recent mock draft, Ricky O'Donnell of SB Nation predicted Milwaukee would select Darryn Peterson with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, pairing a potential superstar guard with franchise cornerstone Giannis Antetokounmpo.
“Milwaukee was the big winner of our lottery simulation, and this is a league-changing outcome. Suddenly, Giannis Antetokounmpo would have a bright future with the Bucks as they land a guard with All-NBA upside in Peterson,” O’Donnell wrote.
Peterson’s freshman season at Kansas has featured flashes of elite scoring ability, even while navigating many injuries and more.
“The Kansas freshman has underwhelmed expectations as he’s battled a hamstring strain and cramping issues, but he’s been putting up huge scoring numbers (43.5 points per 100 possessions on 62 percent true shooting),” O’Donnell added.
Despite the physical setbacks, Peterson’s offensive skillset has an argument of being one of the best we’ve seen in college basketball history.
“We still haven’t seen the best of Peterson yet with the Jayhawks, but his shot-making has already been phenomenal and his rim pressure and defensive playmaking should be a lot better when he’s 100 percent physically,” he continued.
If Milwaukee were to land Peterson, it’d have a young star in Peterson and another very good young guard in Ryan Rollins, making the Bucks one of the more interesting teams in the NBA moving forward.
