Minnesota Vikings Working on Daniel Jones Trade Before Tuesday? New Week 9 Rumor Offers BIG Evidence

Could the Minnesota Vikings be plotting a bold trade for injury-prone Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones? Some surprising evidence has emerged pointing to that possibility before Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline.

The Vikings really don’t have a lot to complain about heading into their Week 9 matchup against the Buffalo Bills because their elite defense — which is giving up just 13 points a game — has carried them to an impressive 6-1 record. On paper, they look like Super Bowl contenders. However, their offense is why many NFL pundits have doubts about a deep playoff run this winter.

The Minnesota offense is averaging 20 points per week, which is sixth-worst in the NFL. Many around the league blame that on the play they’ve gotten at quarterback from Kyler Murray or Carson Wentz. In a perfect world, the Vikings would make a trade to upgrade the position before Nov. 10. However, there aren’t realistic options out there, especially after Jacoby Brissett was traded to the Baltimore Ravens this week.

Well, a new option has emerged. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, “The Colts have received calls from multiple teams inquiring about trading for Jones, and Indianapolis has been willing to listen to any offers.”

Indianapolis is undertaking a huge fire sale before Tuesday’s deadline. They have already moved a pair of multi-time Pro Bowlers, and many believe Jonathan Taylor and Josh Downs will be next.

Why the Minnesota Vikings trading for Daniel Jones isn’t a terrible move

There really aren’t many logical options for a Jones trade right now. Maybe the Cleveland Browns if they aren’t believers in Deshaun Watson, but with a 5-3 record, that seems unlikely. The Denver Broncos could be a possibility, but many NFL experts would probably say Bo Nix is still a better option. The Vikings simply make the most sense as a Jones trade contender because they have the most obvious need at the position, and he surprisingly would be better than what they currently have.

Some Vikings fans will probably roll their eyes at trading for Jones, especially since he seems to be a shell of the player who looked like a Pro Bowler in 2025 before tearing his Achilles. Yet, Kyler Murray hasn’t been much better, and he has better targets in the passing game. Head coach Kevin O’Connell’s confidence in what he can do with quarterbacks will be a key component in a trade.

This week, Casino Guru NFL insider Jason La Canfora told Sportsnaut that “A few personnel people and an advance scout who I have asked about the Vikings in the past think the problem is Kyler Murray and not the system… Kevin O’Connell tends to think he can win with anyone, and he did win with Josh Dobbs for a while.”

Furthermore, after being released by the New York Giants two years ago, Jones signed with the Vikings. O’Connell knows if the former first-round pick is a good fit for his system, and if he is, he can jump in and make an impact far quicker than other QBs they could acquire.

Jones is owed over $46 million next season. However, none of that money is guaranteed. So for fans who think he would bring an expensive contract to their payroll for next season, if it doesn’t work, he can be cut without major cap penalties. While he isn’t the sexiest option, he is probably the best out of the realistic targets.
