Many football fans have been keeping an eye on the story of Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell, who suffered a frightening neck injury during Sunday’s game. Caitlin Clark has added incentive to monitor Campbell’s progress.

Not only are she and the 2025 All-Pro both Iowa Hawkeyes, but Campbell’s wife Megan played with Clark at Iowa during the 2020-21 season. On Wednesday afternoon, after Campbell announced he had full movement in his lower extremities and was “continuing to make progress” with moving his upper body, Clark sent a quick message of support to her former teammate.

On her Instagram story, Clark shared ESPN and Adam Schefter’s post featuring Jack Campbell’s statement. Underneath it, she commented three blue hearts and tagged Megan.

Once a Hawkeye

Megan Campbell (née Meyer) was a star high school player in Mason City, Iowa before joining the Iowa program in 2019. In 2020-21, she was a key contributor off the bench while Clark became the team’s freshman sensation, scoring 26.6 points per game and leading the Hawkeyes to the Sweet 16.

While Meyer transferred to Drake following the season and enjoyed a stellar 2021-22 campaign, she and Clark obviously still have a connection, judging by the latter’s social media post.

‘Optimistic’ Campbell working toward recovery

Jack Campbell went down while making a tackle in the fourth quarter of the Lions’ win over the Minnesota Vikings. The 26-year-old linebacker lay motionless on the field for several minutes before being immobilized and taken off on a stretcher.

The Lions had been vague on specifics regarding Campbell’s condition, only saying Monday that things were trending positively. Campbell himself provided the details in a statement earlier today.

“I know there’s still work ahead, but I remain very optimistic. I’m taking things one day at a time, staying positive, and focusing on getting better,” he said. “My faith in God has never been stronger. I know He has a plan for me, and I trust in that plan. I know there may be challenges ahead, but with my faith, my family, and so many people in my corner, I know we’ll get through this.”
