Lee believes Tye
Ruotolo’s limited mixed martial arts experience could prove
decisive when they meet for the One
Championship lightweight title at
Friday Fights 177 on Nov. 6 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Although Lee acknowledges Ruotolo’s submission grappling credentials, the reigning champion believes his challenger has yet to experience the demands of a five-round MMA contest.
“Tye’s a great grappler. He's got good forward pressure, he's patient, and he scrambles well,” Lee said in a prefight interview. “Weaknesses? It’s the fact that he's 2-0 [in MMA]. You can say whatever you want, that you've had all that grappling experience, but MMA is different.”
The two-division champion expects that experience gap to work in his favor.
“He's never stepped in there and fought five rounds. He hasn't been in any wars yet. And I think that his lack of experience is gonna be one of his biggest weaknesses going into this match,” Lee added.
Ruotolo (2-0) submitted Lee’s younger brother, Adrian Lee, with a rear-naked choke at One Fight Night 35 in September 2025. Christian said that result provides additional motivation, although he holds no personal animosity toward his challenger.
“I just plan on exposing this guy,” Lee said. “I think that he's a very good grappler, but you can't cheat the experience that he hasn't faced yet.”
Lee is coming off a second-round TKO victory over Alibeg Rasulov at One 173 in November 2025.
“I'm expecting to just frustrate him, to break his will over the course of five rounds,” Lee said. “I don't think that he's gonna have it in him to last all five rounds.”
