Minkah Fitzpatrick calls defensive struggles a case of "Jets being Jets"

The 38-33 loss dropped the Jets to 2-6 on the season and it came despite their offense putting up a season-high 439 yards. That offense didn't finish enough drives with touchdowns, but it was the defense that played the biggest role in the loss and safety Minkah Fitzpatrick summed it up succinctly after the game.
"Some bad penalties, bad mistakes," Fitzpatrick said, via multiple reporters. "Jets being Jets."
The Jets reached out to the multiple media members who shared the quote to say that Fitzpatrick said "Jets beating Jets," which avoids any notion of the team's latest loss being a variation of the "Same old Jets" theme that has taken hold during their long playoff drought. The message is the same either way, however.
The Jets' defense wasted a strong offensive performance against the Raiders and they got torn apart on the ground by the Dolphins in Week 7's loss to a previously winless team. After two good outings to start the year, the Jets have now given up an average of 26.3 points per game over the last six contests and that's a formula for losing at the rate that the Jets have been losing this season.
