Emmanuel Acho says struggling Justin Herbert is ‘gambling’ or ‘needs eye surgery’
· Yahoo Sports
Emmanuel Acho is no stranger to firing off enthusiastic takes that either make you cringe, or raise your eyebrows, or both. Just look at his latest analysis of Justin Herbert.
By any measure, Herbert and his team are having a nightmare season, and that might be being kind. The Los Angeles Chargers are 0-7, the only winless team in the NFL, and Herbert’s play has been disastrous. The former No. 6 overall pick is completing only 61.8 percent of his passes, a career-low, to go along with five touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Acho’s assessment is still a tad over the top
Late Sunday night, the Speakeasy host and former NFL linebacker said Herbert “can’t see” on the field and said the only two things that can explain his awful play are him betting on Chargers opponents or needing to see an eye specialist.
“Somebody gotta call an ophthalmologist cause Herbert can’t see,” Acho said, via Awful Announcing. “He can’t see. He needs LASIK. He can’t see! It is impossible to make the throws Justin Herbert makes on a weekly basis if his eyes were functioning properly. It’s impossible to do it. Impossible! He seemingly throws it directly to a defender every single week.
“At this juncture in time, there are only a couple options. Either Herbert is invested in the opponent, either Herbert is gambling on the opponent, or Herbert simply cannot see.”
Like we said, Herbert is playing terribly. There’s no way to sugarcoat that. Still, even knowing that Acho’s aim is to grab attention with his commentary, this seems a bit much.
‘He looks incredibly uncomfortable’
An unnamed offensive coach from another NFL team had another take on Herbert’s struggles, one that makes more sense than Acho’s.
“The quarterback looks incredibly uncomfortable with everything they’re doing,” the coach told The Athletic’s Mike Sando. He added that the fit between Herbert and first-year offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel seems to be a poor one.
“Herbert is a big, long, long-release classic pocket passer who can scramble,” the coach said. “He is not one of these quick-feet, quick-release guys. He’s the opposite of Tua [Tagovailoa, McDaniel’s former QB with the Miami Dolphins.”
