Ryan Day’s Ohio State Buckeyes suffered a disappointing 30-18 defeat to Lincoln Riley’s USC Trojans. Day’s offensive approach came under scrutiny as the Buckeyes repeatedly stalled in the red zone and settled for field goals instead of touchdowns.

The absence of starting quarterback Julian Sayin certainly made things more difficult, but Day is still being criticized for his team’s lack of execution. Ohio State looked out of rhythm for much of the night, and the late touchdown did little to change the outcome.

For a team that entered the season with national championship ambitions, losing to USC is a significant setback. Day now faces pressure to get the Buckeyes back on track before their playoff hopes take another hit.

“Ryan Day would be an amazing GM but he’s not a good coach. Everytime when adversity hits hes lost. A coach has to be able to adapt and he can’t,” a fan wrote.

“I just can’t support Ryan Day like y’all do he’s an average coach living off the brand name. If he were a serious coach he’d have 3 Natties and I’m dead serious,” a fan wrote.

“Everything wrong with Ryan Day was on full display. Bad coaching, no adjustments, no killer instinct, bad clock management, poor assistants, no backup QB plan, and stubborn. Not to mention 2 weeks and the team was flat. Ryan Day is Jason Garrett. Safe but if things aren’t perfect can’t coach to save his life,” a fan wrote.

“Ryan Day has always been an overrated head coach that got lucky with a 4 game run a couple seasons ago. Can’t wait for him to move on so I can start loving OSU football again,” a fan wrote.

“So Ryan Day can’t coach unless he has a first round QB?!?!??!” a fan wrote.

“Ryan Day can’t coach without having ALL the Best athletes on the field. Born on third base and that’s all he knows,” a fan wrote.

Ohio State quarterback Luke Fahey went 21 of 38 for 260 yards and a touchdown in Julian Sayin’s absence, but his efforts weren’t enough to put the Buckeyes back on track.

Dave Portnoy Criticized Ryan Day

After the loss to USC, Dave Portnoy shared a video on X criticizing Ryan Day for the harm he is doing to Ohio State’s reputation. Portnoy said that Day can’t coach a team if his star quarterback isn’t available, which is why they suffered the devastating loss.

“It makes me sick to my stomach watching USC bully and bruise a once proud Ohio State team. Ryan Day once again totally lost when the pressure is on. YOU HATE TO SEE IT!” he wrote on X.

Portnoy said Ohio State fans will one day thank him for exposing flaws in Ryan Day’s coaching style, especially in big games.
