The freshman from Rochester, New York, who was released from jail Friday night, is facing two felony charges of attempting to elude police and one misdemeanor charge of reckless driving.
The charges are tied to an incident in the early morning hours of Oct. 18, shortly after Oregon's 17-14 victory over Nebraska the previous day. Two vehicles eluded Springfield, Oregon police during a high-speed chase and though no arrests were immediately made, one vehicle was later found abandoned near the area where Ducks wide receiver Evan Stewart was arrested and booked into Springfield Municipal Jail for driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUII) charges.
Police told The Oregonian that Hampton was identified as one of the drivers and that the search for the other driver is still ongoing. Stewart is not a suspect in the high-speed chase, nor is Oregon tight end Jamari Johnson, who was cited for speeding that same morning.
Hampton appeared on the availability report Friday night as being out for the Ducks' Week 9 game against No. 18 Northwestern on Saturday, Oct. 31. He hadn't previously appeared on the report on Wednesday or Thursday. Hampton had been listed as out for Oregon's Week 8 loss at Illinois, which occurred one week after the chase.
Hampton was a four-star recruit who was one of the top 150 players nationally in the 2026 class in 247Sports' composite rankings. In five games this season, he has 18 catches for 161 yards and two touchdowns.
Oregon has been among the biggest disappointments in college football this season. The Ducks were No. 2 in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll after bringing back many key players from a team that made the semifinals of last season's College Football Playoff, but are 4-3 heading into their matchup against Northwestern.
