With Kentucky preparing for a trip to Knoxville next weekend, plenty of uncertainty remains around Tennessee’s quarterback situation.

Volunteers head coach Josh Heupel has yet to name a starter for the matchup, leaving the door open for either George MacIntyre or Faizon Brandon.

Brandon, a former 5-star recruit, started Tennessee’s first five games before being replaced by MacIntyre against Auburn. The sophomore has started three straight games since, helping Tennessee earn wins over Auburn, Arkansas, and Alabama.

However, MacIntyre struggled late in last week’s 27-24 loss to South Carolina, committing costly mistakes that helped the Gamecocks pull off the upset.

When asked about the quarterback competition this week, Heupel offered little clarity, simply saying both players had practiced well.

Neither quarterback has been particularly impressive against SEC competition, with Tennessee ranking near the bottom of the conference in several offensive categories.

For Kentucky, the uncertainty could be an advantage as Will Stein and the Wildcats prepare for another massive SEC showdown.

Whether it’s MacIntyre or Brandon under center, Kentucky’s defense will look to capitalize on Tennessee’s struggles protecting the football.
