Liam Scales delivers blunt Celtic verdict following Dundee United disappointment

Liam Scales believes Celtic paid the price for a costly first-half spell in their 2-2 draw with Dundee United at Parkhead on Wednesday evening.

Martin O’Neill’s side surrendered an early lead before fighting back to salvage a point, with Scales heading home Jota’s cross to restore parity.

Despite pushing for a late winner, the Hoops were forced to settle for a draw, although results elsewhere ensured their four-point advantage at the top of the Premiership remained intact.

Speaking to CelticPlayer, Scales admitted: “It’s a bit disappointing, I think. We started the game quite well, and then a sloppy sort of ten-fifteen minutes, and we’ve kind of lost the game because of that.

“It’s disappointing, but I think we showed a lot of character in the second half to take control of the game. I think the ball just didn’t drop for us certain times in the box to go and get that winner, but I think it’s just a sloppy ten-fifteen minutes first half that’s cost us there.”

The Irish defender also praised Jim Goodwin’s Dundee United side, admitting the visitors were worthy of their point.

He continued: “But credit to Dundee United. They’ve been really good this season so far. They’re quite robust, hard to break down and obviously can score goals as well, so I think all-in-all they deserved the point from us.”

Scales was also encouraged by the contribution of Jota, who provided the assist for his equaliser as the Portuguese winger continues his return to full fitness.

He added: “It’s brilliant to have him back. You can tell how eager he is to play, create and go by people.

“He really looks sharp, and he’s going to be massive for us now, because we have so many games. We’re going to need everyone, and he’s going to play a big part, hopefully.”
