Flagg was named Rookie of the Year last season, an award he definitely earned. While most have hyped him since he was in high school, there have also been some non-believers. That list includes former NBA All-Star Jeff Teague. But Coop now has his detractors eating their words.
Jeff Teague apologises for saying Cooper Flagg would be like Andrei Kirilenko, compares him to LeBron James
In the Mavericks’ recent win against the Miami Heat, Flagg had 29 points, six rebounds, and 11 assists. Those are excellent numbers for a player in his position. What’s more, he also got the clutch bucket which sealed a narrow 113-109 victory for his team.
Teague has spoken about it on his Club 520 podcast, not backing down from admitting that he may have been wrong.
“I wanna apologise to Cooper Flagg,” Teague said. “Brother, I said you was gonna be Kirilenko. Boy, you about to be LeBron. Bro, he is cold… Please forgive me. Because Cooper Flagg, you Scottie Pippen, you a mixture… I know you good cuz Dallas done forgotten about Luka.”
This is high praise from Teague, especially the names he has compared Flagg to. It is on the 19-year-old to keep growing at the pace he currently is. For now, he looks like he’s going to be a problem in the league for years to come. And if he can have even half of LeBron’s career, that would make him one of the all-time greats.
