What looked like a game-ending double play turned into a prime opportunity for the Rays to tie Game 1 of the World Series or even take the lead. Instead, the Brewers held on for a 3-2 victory to win their first World Series game since 1982.

The Rays, meanwhile, have to be kicking themselves for not taking advantage of the opportunity in the ninth inning.

Brewers overturned double play

Game 1 didn't go to extra innings, but fans felt like they received some bonus baseball after what was initially ruled a game-ending double play was partly overturned.

Replay confirmed that Cooper Pratt's foot came off the base as he reached for a shaky throw, meaning the Rays scored a run and had runners on second and third base with two outs while trailing by a run:

Not only did the call extend the game, but it forced Brewers closer Trevor Megill to have to get back into his rhythm after he believed his night was over. Megill settled down, got back on the mound and formally won the game for the Brewers with a strikeout of Jonny DeLuca.

Megill got DeLuca swinging to end Game 1, with announcer Joe Davis jokingly saying, "Milwaukee wins Game 1 again" after the premature ending minutes earlier.

Jacob Misiorowski picked up the win by allowing one earned run over five innings, the first win awarded to any Brewers starter in this postseason, and the victory ended a 44-year drought. With the win, Milwaukee needs three more to snap an even more significant 44-year drought.
